Is this Generac 6954 GP Series 8000E generator worth buying?

Good-quality generators of this size typically cost $1,000 or more. The big brands, like Honda or Yamaha, will cost you a lot more money to buy. However, there are a number of great $1,000-priced choices available.

In terms of pricing, the Generac 6954 GP8000E Generator stands out. An American-made generator that's built to last and is an excellent value for the money.

Can you trust Generac the brand?

All-purpose generators like the Generac GP series may be used for everything from powering tools on a building site to powering an RV off the grid. Each design is durable, portable, safe, and long lasting.

As a result its not really about should you buy a Generac generator, but merely what size generator should you buy.

Summary of the Generac 6954 Generator

In terms of size and fuel efficiency, the Generac 6954 GP8000E Generator is ideal for awide range of uses. Power tools, RV electronics, and household essentials can all be powered by this generator's 8000–10,000 watts of output.

Although it doesn't stand out from the crowd, Generac has designed a product that is both safe and simple to use. Portability, reasonably low sound, and engine quality are the most notable advantages, yet the design might be enhanced to make battery charging and maintenance easier.

With POWERRushTM, a new advanced technology, you can get up to 30% more starting capacity, which means you can get more done with less.

For convenience, this model features an electric start. It comes with a battery.

An OHV engine from Generac that features splash lubrication and is built to last for a long time is an excellent choice.

An integrated fuel gauge in a large-capacity steel fuel tank ensures long-term durability and up to an 11-hour operation time at 50% load.

The engine is automatically shut down when the oil level drops to a dangerously low level.

Cradle made of a 1 1/4" diameter steel tube for increased strength and longevity.

Maintenance intervals are recorded on the hour metre.

The never-flat, heavy-duty wheels allow for easy mobility.

Folding handle for simple storage and transportation.

What does Generac 6954 GP8000E Generator offer you?

I like the fuel efficiency of the Generac 6954 GP8000E Generator. On a full 7.5-gallon petrol tank, this model can run for up to 9.5 hours with a half load and up to 12 hours with a quarter load.

Inverters are the only generators that are close to fully silent, although this one is quiet, its only quiet for its size considering it is not an inverter generator. Mufflers that are included in the Generac 6954 GP8000E Generator which helps maintain an average noise level of 70 dB.

The noise intensity is 70 dB, thus I do not recommend using it at a quiet nature park campground. However the sound is muffled enough for your neighbors near your house, it should not annoy them much during a power outage or general use.

Several safety features make this model more user-friendly than most generators. An automatic low-oil shutoff and five circuit breaker protected outlets (120 volt and 120/240 volt) are included.

An hour meter and a fuel gauge are built into the engine for easy monitoring. The hour meter also serves as a nudge to remind you when it's time to perform another round of preventative maintenance or send it for a service.

That this generator can be started using electricity is the most user-friendly aspect i think. To get the engine running, all that is required is a simple press of a button.

Every purchase from Generac is backed by a two-year warranty. Even though the warranty isn't the longest, it's still a great value.

What I like about the Generac 6954 GP8000E Generator

A decent fuel economy rating may be expected from this generator model. A refrigerator and lighting can easily be powered all day with this generator without fear of it running low on fuel.

Because of its size and weight, its portability is an important feature. When not in use, the wheels and fold-down handle make it easy to move to a safe distance for storage.

Many little innovations make this machine easier to operate and maintain, such as the electronic start. It has an integrated fuel gauge, hour meter, automatic low oil shutoff, and replaceable parts such an air filter and oil filter.

The quality of the engine, which is designed to last for many years, is particularly noteworthy. Everything is kept running smoothly by a lubricator and a voltage regulator.

Another component that helps with the smooth operation of the engine is the noise level. With its muffler, this generator is significantly quieter than many other portable models of the same size and capacity.

Basically the Generac 6954 GP8000E Generator is a respectable mid-range portable generator that doesn't rely on some special features to make up for general deficiencies. Instead, it has a wide range of high-quality specifications and is a great all-rounder.

Things I don't like as much about the Generac 6954 GP8000E Generator

The first thing you'll notice is the absence of a DC power socket for charging batteries, which is a bit disappointing.

The electrical power has a THD rating of 5%, which is another minor issue. A laptop or other device should not be plugged straight into the Generac 6954 GP8000E Generator at all even though this is believed to be safe for sensitive electrical gadgets.

The machine's own battery is also required for the electric start. Due to the fact that the engine is running, this battery is not able to be charged at all times.

That in and of itself is inconvenient, but the steps necessary to remove the battery make things substantially more difficult. The placement of the battery should be adjusted in future models, in my opinion.

Why I am happy to recommend the Generac 6954 GP8000E Generator

The portable generators discussed here are excellent choices if you need enough power to live comfortably even if the grid is down. More powerful, heavier, and larger portable generators are on the market if needed.

Running at 8,000 watts and with a surge power rating of 10,000 watts, you should be able to keep all of your household appliances running for as long as you need them.

If I had a heat pump or any other form of water heater, I would go for a larger model but for most circumstances you do not need a bigger model than the Generac 6954 GP8000E Generator.

Everything from lamps, televisions, satellite receivers and other low-watt devices can be powered by your solar panel.

It is also suitable for a large RV. The 8,000/10,000W running and starting capacity will not be enough when utilizing high-wattage equipment with a high initial current need.

However for standard household items including even Air Conditioners, then the Generac 6954 GP8000E Generator or an equivalent-sized generator is suitable for all of these electrical goods.

You can run multiple household items at the same time and still be well under 8000w, but it is always a good idea to do some quick calculations to make sure you are not running too much at once. When using a portable generator to power your home, you must be aware of how much electricity you use.

Consider the startup wattage needed as well as the normal running wattage. A brief moment of overload may occur if your washing machine, vacuum cleaner, microwave, refrigerator and air conditioner all switch on at the same time.

The Generac 6954 GP8000E Generator 10,000 beginning watts can power a few appliances at once, but not your entire home all at once, so be careful with that. While the washing machine is running, for example, you should not use the vacuum cleaner whilst also having the Air Conditioning blasting.

A huge quantity of power can be generated at any moment by air conditioners and freezers, as they cycle on and off often. So, that is an important consideration. However, to be fair I have gone about my daily household life and never ran into a problem with the Generac 6954 GP8000E Generator.

How to get the best out of the Generac 6954 GP8000E

For the best results, utilize a larger portable generator and connect it directly to your house's wiring via a transfer switch.

Hardwired circuits like your lights will continue to function without the need for extension cables. A power outage will have little effect on your day-to-day routine. Simply unhook the generator from your house and take it with you if you need to use it somewhere else.

Transfer switches are the safest and most convenient way to connect a generator to your home. You don't have to worry about one power source interfering with the other while switching from mains power to generator power.

As a result, a wide range of products can be purchased over the counter or via Amazon. The installation of a transfer switch, on the other hand, should be done by an electrician who is licensed. Municipal regulations must be followed in the event of a faulty connection.

The most comprehensive range of transfer switches may be found from Generac. Kits of many shapes and sizes are available, making it possible to meet the needs of any home or business. For a variety of generators, they offer a wide amperage range that can be used.

It is possible to use single load transfer switches to connect and switch only the circuits necessary for generator power during an outage. Only those circuits in your house that are absolutely necessary and won't create a generator overload will be powered by the generator.

Final Thoughts

Unlike some of the other models in the series, the Generac 6954 GP8000E Generator isn't meant to be a standout premium product. It is meant to be an affordable all-rounder. The outcome of this is a flexible system that may be used for a wide range of purposes, rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.

Compared to its competitors, this model does not noticeably lag behind other competitors but it does not dominate the market either. That's one of the things that makes it an intriguing buying choice. You need to make sure it fits your needs. .

If you need a generator that can operate in a range of environments, this is the one for you. It's a safe bet because it's either average or slightly above average in nearly everything.

Some people prefer quieter and lighter models for their RV trips while others prefer heavier and more powerful models for their construction work. However, a good generator is a big investment, and this model enables you to cover all of your needs with a single investment rather than spending more on different generator kinds.

The only serious problem found was that the machine's motor cannot recharge the battery. While the engine is switched off, it has to be removed, which complicates things when recharging the battery.

I would hope that the battery charging process will be simplified and optimized in the near future. Generac, if you are listening, get this sorted haha.

Finally, it is a simple and easy-to-use generator. An hour meter and covered plugs serve as maintenance and safety reminders on the control panel's compact, transportable generator.
