Operating from 68dBA, the Sportsman can run on gasoline or propane and, with a 50 percent load, can run for up to 10 hours on a full 3.6-gallon tank of gas. It can also run for 12 hours with a full 20lbs LP gas grill-type cylinder (not supplied).

Given the power packed by this, it's one of the best silent home generator units.

3. Silent Home Generator Review - DuroStar DS4400

DuroStar DS4400 is as reliable as you would expect for a generator from this manufacturer. It's a failsafe power backup generator when you need it most, and its noise levels make it particularly suitable for the home, running at 69dBA.

We also included the DS4400 in our review of silent home generator machines as we admire its all round versatility. It's rugged and robust, yet very portable, so it can also be used on, for example, camping trips where you don't want to annoy your Great Outdoors neighbours with noise!

4. Silent Home Generator Review - DuroMax XP4400E

The Duromax's XP4400E may be a beast of power backup, but it's another machine in our silent home generator roundup that runs surprisingly quietly. Despite its powerful 7.0HP air-cooled OHV engine, whose 3500W (max 4400W) output is sufficient to fully power a small house, the XP4400E emits 69dBA.

The muffler design of the machine keeps the noise to a minimum, meaning that you can use it without any nuisance in the home, or out of doors on campsites, etc. This generator has a 4-gallon tank, and the unit can deliver up to 8 hours of continuous power at 50% load.

5. Silent Home Generator Review - Generac 5734

Emitting noise levels from 70dBA, the Generac 5734 underscores the reputation of its manufacturers as a producer of superior power generators that are efficient, reliable, and cause little or no annoyance regardless of circumstances.

Driven by the powerful Generac OHVI engine, this appliance has sufficient power to operate air conditioning systems of up to 5 tons. The quiet operation of the unit is the cherry on the cake for anyone seeking a great all-round power backup solution.

6. Silent Home Generator Review - DuroMax XP10000EH

The DuroMax's XP10000EH is rightly acclaimed for its dual-fuel flexibility—giving the user the choice of running on gas or propane—and its relatively quiet noise emission of 72dBA is another reason to get excited about the unit.

On gas, the unit produces 9375 starting watts and 7500 running watts, and on propane 8400 starting watts and 6750 running watts. Easy to use with great inbuilt features that enhance its efficiency, the noise generated by this powerful little performer is just 74dBA.

8. Silent Home Generator Review - Sportsman GEN10K

The Sportsman GEN10K works well whether indoors or outside. Powerful and rugged, the Sportsman GEN10K makes our list of silent home generator units by virtue of its reliability and sheer power. Added to this is its operational noise level.

The GEN10K, which can handle pretty much any domestic power requirement demanded of it, runs at just 74dBA, making this another of the best quiet home generator units, without question.

Briggs & Stratton is one of the most reliable power brands. The 30664 produces 8000-watts of power, emits 81dBA, and can run a plethora of large appliances and power tools simultaneously, delivering up to 9 hours of continuous operation at 50pc load on a full tank.

It's portable too, and rated in accordance with CSA and rated in accordance with PGMA standards. The machine also has a 3-year limited warranty to protect against defects in materials and workmanship.
